The Mental Load of Slow Camming

You aren’t the only one. Slow cam shifts around the holidays truly do take a toll on performer’s mental health. It’s not uncommon to struggle around the holidays and preparing seems impossible when the price of the world around us increases.

There are some ways in which you can care for yourself during these hard times, whether or not you feel the full weight of them.

The ups and Downs of camming

In one of my most recent posts Setting Limits, a Cam Guide – I touch base on how easy it can be to equate your worth to the number of tokens you receive online. Some months may be incredible and you make all the goals you set for yourself. Other months will leave you wondering how you sat online in silence for six hours and made barely anything at all.

It’s important to know that income in relation to camming is directly influenced by who’s online, who’s willing to pay, and the interaction they are receiving. You may be feeling charismatic and adorable but if the right people aren’t in the room at that time to witness it you won’t make your goal. This will pass and the more consistency you have during these tough times, the more chance you’ll have of the right user finding you.

Relying on camming

Relying on a sex job where income is never promised or guaranteed on a given day can be incredibly difficult, mentally and physically. It’s important to always ensure you have good savings (if you are able) and have an overall profitable time on cam before quitting other jobs. Jumping to quit will make these slower months even more unbearable.

It happens to many performers

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve jumped offline after hours of no interaction or tipping, hiding in my closet crying until those worthless feelings went away. It’s not something that can always be prevented no matter how prepared you try to be or how positive you are. Just know you are NOT alone. During a social media poll I conducted in October of 2023, 97% of all models that responded (83) reported experiencing heightened emotional stress during the holiday seasons.

Take it easy on yourself

Even the most popular models have these bad days. If you love camming, know that those slow holiday months when families are home and money is tight are only temporary. Keep with it, know you are not alone in this struggle, and don’t let it defeat you.

Remember, if all else fails, never underestimate the power of having a partner or friend you can confide in after shitty stream shifts. If you have a partner who is supportive of what you do (which you deserve), being able to vent about it and then curl up with some chocolate really does wonders for the brain. Vent it out, set new goals, and give it another go.
