Benefits of Lube

Cordelia is here with some education about lube and the benefits of using it!

Several months back, when I first started blogging, I wrote a piece on the different types of lubes available and since then I’ve done several lube reviews (So far Astroglide’s natural lube has been my favorite) and I wondered what the benefits of using lube are. I mean, obviously, they help things go a little more smoothly but is that really the only benefit? Let’s find out!

1.)  Vaginal Dryness

Vaginal dryness is a super common problem, especially in postmenopausal women. Dry sex is often painful sex and adding lube can really make sex enjoyable again. Let’s face, people love sex but not when it hurts. There Are SO many different brands out there, I’m sure you can find one or two that you’ll enjoy. And there are so many options where if you have allergies like I do, you’ll STILL be able to find something! There’s also water based lubes out there safe for toy usage too! Menopause isn’t the only thing that can cause vaginal dryness either, vaginal secretions can change because of stress, anxiety, hormone changes (especially pregnancy!) or other medical conditions like diabetes or immune disorders. Some medications (including birth controls) can cause dryness.

Be warned, products with certain chemicals (i.e. douches, soaps, etc) can cause dryness as can a lack of foreplay. Foreplay is important ya’ll!

2.) Flavored lubes

Flavored lubes can add a little more fun to the bedroom without the risk of yeast infections. Sure the movies make whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and other food items sound all fun but there’s nothing fun about the yeast infection that comes from the sugar. Sugar free flavored lubes can avoid that while still adding some fun flavors into your sex life.

3.) Slick and Slide

Over all, lube just makes things run more smoothly, whether you need or want a little more slickness, if your man or toy is on the large side and you need some extra help easing it in, lube is big, big help. Don’t be afraid of it.

4.) Dryness begone

Using water based/condom safe lubes can help with dryness caused by condoms. Once again, it’ll help things move easily. Also, using condom safe lube with a condom can help prevent a condom from breaking due to dryness and friction so keep that in mind!

5.) Spice it up

Lube can really help spice up masturbation and foreplay. Like I mentioned above, sometimes you need some when it comes to using certain toys because of their size or material (but again, please make sure it’s silicone compatible lube!!! You can and will break down your toys if you’re not using water based lubes.) but also adding lube to a hand job (because who really likes a dry hand job and spit dries fast…) or even flavored lube to a blow job, it can add that little bit of extra to the fun.

If you need a litle more information about lube, I highly suggest checking out this blog for a short overview and maybe looking at some of our reviews to see what you think! If you’re new to lubes, there are a bunch of companies that’ll send you a free sample to try as well and I’ve found that the sample packets actually come with a fair bit of lube. Just make sure you understand the difference in lubes (the different types, sugar/sugar free/condom & you safe/etc) and what you want to do with said lube!
