This is a continued piece for a previous blog (find that one HERE) that introduces both of these fetishes. The sexual attraction could be toward themselves, an intimate partner, or possibly someone they don’t even know.
The difference
They are slightly different. As we learned in the last blog, Voyeurism is the act of watching someone. Exhibitionism, however, is a bit more broad in its definition but let’s look at two key pieces of it. The first, exposing yourself to someone without them knowing it’s coming/without their permission. Typically, it’s done to a stranger and not someone you know. It could be a flash of your genitals or masturbating in front of them. It could also be sex/playing in public with an intimate partner, as well.
One interesting thing that’s different from Voyeurism is that statistics show this is a male dominated fetish, especially where flashing genitals to strangers is concerned. That said, public flash shows that some cam models put on is technically considered to be a part of the exhibitionism fetish.
So what are some examples of consensual and non consensual aspects of exhibitionism?
Flashing strangers is a pretty clear non consensual act of exhibitionism, especially when minors are involved or around the general vicinity.
A consensual example would be public sex with a partner or even skinny typical in a relatively public/popular place. While the acts are consensual, they’re still lewd and frowned upon. Using toys on a partner in public is also another form of consensual exhibitionism.
A lot of folks say the thrill comes from the unpredictability of being caught.
That’s what gets them aroused.
Like the previous fetish, there’s nothing wrong with this and there are ways to do it safely and consensually. One thing to keep in mind though, are your state laws which is something I’ll be touching on in the next blog!
