Four Cultures and Sex Myths

let’s dive in and get some sex education about four sex myths from around the world!

A couple weeks back, my second blog post was on Ancient Egyptians and their beliefs about sex and how the world was created. Well, I’m diving back in to see what other cultures believe about sex and the creation of the world as well as things in this world.

Europeans

Up first we have the European’s – Ancient europeans used to offer up Germanic virgins, allowing them to choose a war hero to sleep with. They would also celebrate war wins with huge orgies. Like, massive orgies. These events were eventually forbidden and persecuted heavily, so heavily the practices faded out quickly.

Staying in Europe, the Catholic Church believed women, specifically kisses or touches, would distract a man from following God’s path. This belief launched the Catholic’s ideal that sex should only be used for procreation. Women were too dangerous and distracting otherwise. (Borrrrrrrrrring)

Aztecs

Next up, the Aztec’s and the creation of the bat. According to their beliefs, the god Quetzalcoatl dropped semen and blood onto a rock and that created the bat. It was believed that the bat traveled to the home of the Goddess of Love, Fertility, and Beauty and the feasted on her sexual oranges while sleeping. When the goddess awoke and cleaned her wounds with blessed water, she then created the season spring and flowers.

Along with the bat, spring and flowers, the Aztecs also had a special ceremony that paid tribute to Toci, the mother of all goddesses. During this ceremony, eight dancers would dance naked while holding a penis figurine (supposed to represent fertility)as they offered corn as a contribution.

Greeks

Sexual promiscuity and lustfulness were pretty common back in the ancient days. The Greeks have many myths that involve people shifting into animals and then having sex with other humans. They also had a lot of mythical creatures that were half-human and half-animal,  mostly half goat.

The half-human, half-goat is specifically connected to Dionysus, the God of Wine. He enjoyed being surrounded by these creatures. Zeus was another God that was sex driven. He was believed to be a shapeshifter, constantly changing his form to sleep with others. The most disturbing of all is the myth of Zeus shifting into a serpent to lay with his daughter. So…beastality and inscest is what the Greeks were gettin’ down with back in the day.

Mayan

After that, we have the Mayan’s. Supposedly, there was an incident where penis shaped raindrops fell from the skies and soaked the lands. I’m pretty sure this is connected to making the grounds fertile for crops but it wasn’t explained further. They also believed, like the Eygptians, that masturabation helped creation and fertility of the land. Guys, this is going to make you squirm but during this ritual, they would actually make a small cut in the penis and let the blood and semen flow into the soil of their lands. They believed it created a bond between them and nature.

This blog didn’t get as deep into the sexual minds of ancient cultures like the Egyptian blog did but some of these myths/beliefs are just absolutely wild. I don’t know what got me the most, the bat eating the sex organs, the incestual serpent, or the sexually demonic females….alright…that last one might be a little believable 😉  The catholic’s may have been onto something with distracting kisses and touches.
